Symptoms

Blackheads, Whiteheads, Inflamed, Red Lesions, Pimples etc appear on the face as well as back, chest and shoulders.

Causes

Acne is triggered by

  • Hormonal changes
  • Greasy/Oily Cosmetics
  • Drugs such as steroids, testosterone etc.
  • Too much humidity and sweating

Ayurveda considers this as an aggravation of kapha and Pitta dosha known as Mukha dooshika. It is caused by contamination of the blood stream by toxins. This could be due to constipation, irregular eating habits, and excess intake of oily, spicy,?? starch / sugar containing foods.

Treatments

It is better to turn to the holistic acne treatments rather than using harsh chemicals and drugs that may have side effects. Ayurveda treatments are completely natural, non-invasive and based on the age old science of healing. Do not hide your symptoms by using chemical creams. Instead remove the root cause with the help of Ayurveda. Acne is caused due to Rakta Dushti or Vitiated Blood along with vitiated Kapha and Pitta. Thus removing or purifying the vitiated doshas from the body forms the basis of treatment for Acne. This can be achieved through the following methods:

  • Sodhana chikitsa.
  • External Application of Lepa
  • Internal Medications

Apart from the above, diet changes like drinking approximately 8 glasses of water a day, consuming foods rich in betacarotene like carrots, pumpkins etc, reducing intake of tea/coffee/alcoholic beverages may prove helpful.
The above mentioned line of treatment differs from patient to patient and the treatments are customized to suit individual skin conditions. It is always important to meet a specialized Ayurvedic expert to determine the type of treatment suitable for you.
