The ayurvedic term for dandruff is Daranakam. It is a disease of the scalp. Daranakam is a disease predominant in vata and kapha with pitta rakta anubandha. Even though it seems to be a skin problem, its pathology involves disturbunces of agni, doshas and dhatus and thereby interfering metabolism. Hence treatment requires shodhana, samana and rasayana.
Dandruff can prove to be quite embarrassing especially when you are wearing dark clothes and someone brushes off the white flakes from your shoulders. Dandruff is condition that affects the scalp. It is the shedding away of the dead skin cells of the scalp. This is normal and happens every month but for people suffering from dandruff this happens every 2-7 days.
